COURSE OVERVIEW

The VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy General is a substantial vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed beauty therapist. This qualification is based on the beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a beauty therapist.

The modules you will study are:

N2 – Provide Manicure Services

Understanding manicure techniques, products & services, massage techniques, using tools, improving skin & nail, and finishing the treatment with a high-quality varnish application.

N3 – Provide Pedicure Services

Understanding pedicure techniques, products & services, using tools. You will learn massage techniques, leaving feet smooth and groomed.

B4 – Provide Facial Skincare Treatments

You will learn the first steps to learning massage and luxury facial treatments, you will analyse skin types and advise clients on product sustainability for their needs.

B5 – Enhance the Appearance of the Lashes and Brows

You will learn tinting brows & lashes, strip lashes, cluster lashes and shaping brows.

  • 1 Assignment

B6 – Carry out Waxing Services

You will learn half leg, full leg, bikini line, chin, upper lip, and eyebrow wax treatments as well as shaping brows with tweezers.

B8 – Provide Make Up Services

You will learn application of day, evening, and special occasion make0up, consult for make-up, face shapes and contouring. You will plan a special occasion theme, create a mood board, include props, and photograph your finished look.

G4 – Fulfil Salon Reception Duties

Will cover handling enquiries/appointments, maintaining reception area, dealing with payments, stock control, client records, and communication skills.

  • 1 Assignment

G8 – Develop and Maintain Effectiveness at Work

Improving personal performance, working as a team, understanding roles, procedures, and targets.

Includes:

  • 1 Assignment

G18 – Promote Additional Services or Products

Identifying products & services available, gaining client commitment using products and services.

Includes:

  • 1 Assignment

G20 – Ensure responsibility to Reduce Risks to Health & Safety

Identifying hazards, evaluating, reporting, and reducing risks.

Includes:

  • 1 Assignment

In addition, this qualification will also cover:

  • Contra-indications and contra-actions
  • Benefits of products, disposal of waste products
  • Observation of hygiene and safety practices
  • Anatomy and Physiology of the body (14 Body Systems)
  • Pre-treatment and aftercare advice, client consultation
  • Organisational and legal requirements and record keeping
  • Educational visits related to the Beauty Industry
  • Workshops in Customer Service, Study Skills and Planning your Career Path

  • Through a range of classroom work activities
  • Through completion of theory tasks and work study packs
  • Through completion of practical treatment assessments

What could I do once I qualify?

  • VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy General Progress into a work-based apprenticeship studying a further level 3 qualification
  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies
  • Potential self-employment as a beauty therapist
  • Potential employment within a salon as a Senior Therapist or Manager
  • Employment as a therapist on a cruise liner, health spa or leisure centre

What else will I be expected to complete?

Arrange your own work experience at a local salon (approximately 30 hours to be completed over the course program)

Duration of the course?

Approximately 6 months at one day per week (can vary)

Will I need to study at home?

Yes, it is very important to make sure that you are practising your practical treatments and working on your assignments or workbooks every week to be able to pass your exams and observations.
