COURSE OVERVIEW

This qualification is delivered by HB Academy and has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in manicures, pedicures, nail enhancements, electric files, application and design of nail art, how to display retail stock and promote sales and your own personal health and wellbeing.  This qualification requires dedication and commitment as you will be required to practice from home as well as attending your lessons.  If you want to be the best you need to work hard and practise as much as possible.

COURSE CONTENT

The modules you will study are:

UV20470 – Provide Manicure Treatments

You will learn how to consult with your client prior to providing manicure services, recognising contra-indications, preparing for the service and producing a treatment plan. You will learn about filing, buffing, using skin and cuticle treatments, massaging techniques to the hand and lower arm and using a suitable nail finish.

UV20471 – Provide Pedicure Treatments

This unit covers consulting with your client prior to providing pedicure services, recognising any contra-indications, preparing for the service and producing a treatment plan. You will learn about filing, applying skin and cuticle treatments, cleaning and drying the feet, removing excess hard skin, massaging the foot and lower leg and providing a suitable nail finish

UV30405 – Apply & Maintain Nail Enhancements

To provide services to enhance, maintain, repair and remove nails on the hands and feet, using liquid and powder, UV gel and wraps. You will learn techniques to consult with your client for their needs and any contra-indication.

UV30476 – Design & Apply Nail Art 

Understanding planning and creation of nail art designs to suit the client and occasion using a wide range of nail art products. You will learn about 3D designs, embedding, colour blending, marbling, painting and alternative tip shapes. You will produce a mood board and the finished nails will be photographed.

UV30429 – Enhance Nails using Electric Files

You will learn how to use a piece of equipment to speed up service time. It is used when applying nail enhancements and maintenance, being aware of the environmental conditions when using the equipment. You will have knowledge on the correct use, undertaking a full consultation and dangers of improper filing.

UV30491 – Monitor & Maintain Health & Safety Practice in the Salon

You will develop your skills in a supervisory role focusing on health & safety within a salon environment. You will recognise hazards, carry out risk assessments and implement actions. You will learn about salon security and the need for insurance.

UV30468 – Client Care & Communication in Beauty-related Industries

This is a unit that prepares you for work and is based on capability and knowledge. You will learn about client care and communication in beauty-related industries and develop your ability to adapt the provision of client care, communication skill, adapt to the needs of different clients and well as learning to manage client expectations.

UV 30493 – Maintaining Personal Health & Wellbeing

This unit will develop your knowledge and understanding of how to maintain your health and wellbeing. You will set your own personal action plan, have clear goals, monitor and review your activities and evaluate your progress regarding eating, lifestyle, exercise and weight management.

UV20490 – Display Stock to Promote Sales in a Salon

In this unit you will learn how to create an eye‑catching display using promotional materials, equipment and stock from your salon. Through careful planning, preparation and maintenance of your display, you will learn how to promote your salon and increase sales of services and retail products. You must follow safe working practices during the assembly and dismantling stages of the display.

UV20492 – Promote Products and Services to Clients in a Salon

Through this unit you will develop a sound knowledge of the products and services offered in your salon. You will learn how to promote these products and services by providing accurate information, describing the benefits and features to your clients, being able to identify buying signals, secure an agreement and close a sale

WHAT ELSE WILL I BE EXPECTED TO COMPLETE?

Arrange work experience at a local salon (approximately 30 hours to be completed over the whole course programme). We encourage you to complete this to improve your confidence and prepare you for work in the industry.  This is not mandatory, but we do encourage you as it is very beneficial for our learners, this is proven by past learners completing work experience and gaining employment.

WHAT COULD I DO ONCE I QUALIFY?

  • Study an additional Level 3 course in a different area in beauty or progress onto an advanced Level 4 course (such as Salon Management or CETs)
  • Progress into a work based apprenticeship studying a further level 3 qualification
  • Potential self-employment as a nail technician
  • Potential employment within a salon as a Senior Therapist or Manager
  • Employment as a nail technician on a cruise liner, health spa or leisure centre
  • Employment as a Beauty Assessor (Tutor)
